Lanky, but strong despite appearances.
Nate Thompson was born in San Diego on June 9, 2130. He followed in his brother’s footsteps, though with his own stride. When Mick joined the Air Defense and became a fighter pilot, Nate joined the Air Defense and became a logistics manager. When Mick joined Starfleet, Nate signed up a few years later. However, whereas Mick’s experience earned him a slot in the NX program, Nate was pulled to Starfleet Command for more or less clerical duties. While Mick got out into space, Nate oversaw the administration and management of special projects for various Admirals.
Nate’s first milestone came when he was transferred to Jupiter Station as Chief Operations Officer (though his Starfleet training was as an engineer). It wasn’t even outside the solar system, but it was in space and, more importantly, he came under the wing of Captain Batenburg. It was a professional relationship that would mold his Starfleet career from then on.
With Batenburg’s help, he gained a position as Communications Officer (much like the chief operations position he held on JuStat, aided by the fact that he spoke eight languages at the time) and as Acting First Officer under Commander Killburn on Mir (NCL-4). In earning his “space legs”, this would be Nate’s first combat experience, and the first time subjected to the death of a crewmember. He resumed his position at JuStat after a single mission on Mir. He declined promotion to Lieutenant Commander despite Killburn’s recommendation and Batenburg’s disapproval of his decision.
Nate’s next milestone came during the Mercy Campaign. When the call came out for all available ships, he was assigned as Comms/XO again, this time on Freedom (FCL-1) under Fleet Captain Battenburg. Direct participation in a full-scale battle and the death of his brother caused serious psychological stress which prompted his ELOA to cope with several internal and external difficulties. He was preparing to resign from Starfleet when Batenburg pulled him for duty as chief of construction, and later Chief Engineer of Forrest Outpost.
Another milestone came when he finally earned a slot in the NX program (with Commodore Battenburg’s recommendation to Fleet Captain Winter) and served as Chief Engineer on Challenger (NX-04). It was during this assignment that Winter was killed in action. After that mission, Nate was being transferred back to Forrest when he was approached by Starfleet Intelligence.
The year spent with the fledgling SFIntel was largely classified for one reason or another. During this time Nate served as an intelligence analyst, translator (having picked up a few alien languages), and member of the Technology Assessment Program, along with some “field work”. Nate was reassigned from this department by recommendation of Rear Admiral Batenburg to become Forrest’s First Officer.
Nate's final milestone came when circumstances conspired to remove Captain Milikan from command of Forrest, leaving newly arrived Thompson suddenly as acting CO.
