Lean and toned from swimming and surfing, she keeps her dark hair long. Sports a tattoo of a Dyer‘s Bugloss wildflower (anchusa tinctoria) where the right thigh meets the waist.
Before she was born, Ronia’s parents joined a kibbutz in the Upper Galilee when it was fashionable at the time to escape the pressures of urban life. The youngest of two siblings, Ronia was born to Echkol and Frida Cohen. An ugly ducking in her youth, her protector was her older brother Rafa, a bright and gentle individual with whom Ronia looked up to with a kind of hero-worship. Life on the kibbutz was about communal hard work out in the open air. But when there was time for play, she could be found hanging out with Rafa. Even when her brother developed an interest in girls, he always had the time for his little sister.
When Ronia was fourteen, her parents decided to leave the kibbutz and moved to Haifa. Her brother, now a young man, decided to stay. It was a bittersweet parting for the girl that had grown up in his shadow. However to a flowering teenager feeling the inescapable pull of angst, the bustling coastal city with its miles of golden beaches were both culture shock and heaven. As a girl who had grown up within the spartan and austere environment of the kibbutz, Haifa had a vibe, a refreshing and frenetic beat that pulsed throughout the city. The were the beaches, the nightclubs, the parties…all which pulled her in. The ugly duckling soon blossomed into an attractive and vibrant young woman who seemed to live 24/7 on the beach. She made friends easily and never seemed to lack for male attention.
At that invisible crossroads a young person comes to when one has to decide what to do with their life, Ronia wanted to make a difference. As much as she loved the beach and the water, hitting the clubs and flirting with the oh-so-cute boys, she knew there was a void. One of her role models had been a counselor and a good friend of her mother’s at the kibbutz, a woman she had admired greatly for her wisdom, endless patience, selfless caring, and understanding of the human spirit.. Her brother, now a stellar cartographer’s mate in Starfleet, had been interested in astrology and spent endless nights with her lying in the fields facing the night sky when they were young. He instilled in her a fascination for the universe and its mysteries. Sonia decided to join the Academy with the idea of pursuing a career in counseling.
Ronia Cohen is a well-grounded and free-spirited individual with a great capacity for kindness and caring. Bubbly, lively, gregarious, and optimistic, she possesses the kind of genuine smile that can just light up a room. One attribute that serves her well as a counselor is an inestimable ability to establish quick and trusting rapports with patients (and people in general). Level-headed to a fault, she tends to remain clam and steady in moments of crisis (save for those of the heart). Her earlier life on a kibbutz has given her a solid work ethic and she is not afraid to get her hands dirty.
Ronia enjoys most outdoor activities, shopping, reading, music, and the arts. Her favorite pastimes however involve swimming, hanging at the beach, and painting with oils.
